Search My Gay!

Note From Laura

Meet My Gay began as my attempt to straddle the divide between my gay and straight lives, and to publicize
this photo with the Randy Blue Boys.
It has expanded to include a cast of characters who each provide their unique perspective on gay life and culture. Our goal is to entertain, to inform, and to create a safe, nonsexual community for gays and straights alike. Come on in, take a look, and allow me to introduce you to... my gay(s)!

Dylan <3's Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue has just changed my pop loving life.  I saw her perform at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday (this is her FIRST American tour in her 22 year career.  FINALLY!!!!).  Under the stars, surrounded by thousands of her biggest fans (90% gay men) who have been waiting their whole lives to finally see their idol, the energy was unreal.  I've always loved Kylie, have all her CDs, but there was always something keeping me from completely connecting with her.   Now after seeing her live, I feel like I'm discovering her for the first time.  She is one of the most spectacular performers I've ever seen!  Her voice, energy, love of what she does, connection to her fans, and her beauty certainly explain why she is the pop queen of Europe/Australia.

Here is her performing RED BLOODED WOMAN on the tour, set in a men's lockerroom.  (she sure knows how to please her gay fans!)

DID IT AGAIN (below, from 1997) was the first Kylie video I ever saw when I was 18, and was actually one of my first tastes of Europop in general.

I am very excited to now re-explore one of the world's greatest pop divas!

Dylan <3's Spice Reunions

Emma, Mel B, Melanie C, & Geri all had dinner together in London last night.   Nothing makes me happier than seeing Spice Girls together again. And they all look fantastic!  Hopefully this will trigger something exciting from them.

Sadly, Victoria was absent, but the girls tweeted that she was with them in spirit :)  Watch till the end to see a homeless lady harassing Geri for change.

I'm back, bitches.

I’m back and would like to make 3 points.

  1. Taylor Swift won jackpot on the VMA’s, because the sweet little girl who writes cute lyrics and chases after the popular boy managed to steal all the attention away from THIS.
  2. Kate Gosselin.  Thank you for getting rid of your reverse mullet weave.   You look lovely.  Now step away from Dr. Phil before he steals 7 of your children for his show, claim it is for their own good, and leave you with only Maddy to split with Jon.
  3. 2009 has been a tragic year for celebrities.  Can someone please explain to me how Amy Winehouse is still alive?

That is all.

Love,

Laura

My Tranny Top Ten

All this coverage on pregnant men and crossdressing politicians hasn't only intrigued America, but it has really sparked controversy and awareness on the idea of gender association. Whereas I think it's perfectly acceptable (who hasn't dressed in drag and performed 'The Cell Block Tango' at a charity event? ...No? So just me?), many people question if this "confusion" is appropriate for the mass media. Oh please, as if your son isn't in the other room trying on jewelry as we speak. Anyways, I'm here to make a rebuttal. The idea of gender has always been the subject of very popular movies. Therefore, I wanted to create a Top Ten List of my personal favorite gendertastic performances. - Transvestites, transsexuals, and cross dressers, oh my!

10) TransAmerica (Bree) - How could I make a list of amazing gender-bending performances and not include Felicity Huffman's honest and genuine performance as Bree. Not only did the physical transformation garner the Desperate Housewife an Oscar Nomination, but it also created awareness of gender identity and acceptance. That being said, who remembers that mesmerizing scene when Bree takes a leak and her son mistakenly observes "more than anticipated" in the rear view mirror...?

9) Mrs. Doubtfire (Mrs. Euphegenia Doubfire) - "It was a drive by fruiting". Arguably one of the funniest classics of my generation. Ordinarily, I wouldn't categorize Mrs. Doubtfire as a classic, however since this movie was released during the hay-day of my childhood, it deserves that title. It was the first time I was exposed to a man-turned-woman in a film. While he didn't necessarily win in the end, he definitely proved that gender is merely an illusion that can essentially be altered and distorted. Not to mention, Robin Williams proved once again that he can conquer any and all roles...including ones with a vagina.

Is Tranny a Race?

Did you know that entire races can share similar characteristics? I know, I know, up until now I didn’t think that was true either, but apparently it is! Note: Prepare to get schooled.

For example, did you know that when Asian people come to a housewarming, they bring detergent. Yup, every last one of them. It’s like an Asian law or something. I was not always privy to this information, but a genuine Asian friend of mine assured me of it.

Similarly, I was on a date once and the person said to me, “…You know why? Because all Black people like free things, that’s why.” Well, the truth is, I didn’t know! How ashamed and embarrassed was I?

Which brings me to my point. The other day I was at Starbucks and the gentleman in front of me in line was on his cell phone. At one point he says -in quite a lot of fabulousness-, “The drinking starts at 8 and the show is supposed to start at the same time, but you know 8 in real time is 10:30 in Tranny time!! OKAAAAAAY!” You heard it here. Trannies are so amazing, they run on a time grid completely different from most of mankind!

So, naturally I am asking, “If all Asians encourage you to wash your clothes, all Black people have to like free things, and all Trannies are required to be late… is Tranny a race, too?”

All I know is that from now on I will always capitalize “Tranny” juuuuust in case.

The World Around Me

Every so often the stars align, the oceans rise, and it's bound to happen. It's as inevitable as a Naomi Campbell meltdown. Through no fault of my own, I wake up on the bitch side of the bed and my entire morning is unfortunately foul. Not even the site of the Today Show's Matt Lauer could snap me out of my sour mood.

Without any fair warning, yesterday was one of those days...

As my eyes flicked open Monday morning, I was instantly opposed to the start of the day. The teeniest agitations became magnified and I was filled with this seething irritation. The slightest occurrence would set me off like a ticking time bomb of frustration. I literally became Shannen Doherty circa 1993. Shoot, girl... I became Oprah Winfrey with wet hair (I would CUT you!).
